Altar Guild

Schedule

Members of St. Paul's Altar Guild serve the priests and the church by preparing the altar for worship services, funerals, weddings, etc.  The Altar Guild also cares for the linens, altar hangings, candles and vessels that are used in the worship services.

Generally, each Altar Guild member serves three months in each year and may be responsible for five or six services during each of her months of service. The Altar Guild member prepares for a service by setting up the altar and Credence table. After the service she washes and puts away the silver vessels used in the service. She takes used altar linens home to launder, iron and returns them as quickly as possible.

New members of the Altar Guild receive several hours of training and a short manual of instructions for each service. A new member will work with a more experienced member until she is confident she understands her job. Membership is not limited to women.
