COUNSELING MINISTRY

Information and Policies

1. Services: The services of the counseling ministry are available to both members and non-members alike in the areas of individual, couple, and family concerns.

2. Appointments: Appointments for counseling are available each weekday and are made by arrangement with the counselor, Gordon Brewer at (423-571-7423). Individual appointments are scheduled for fifty minutes. If an individual cannot attend a scheduled appointment, he or she is expected to give 24 hours notice.

3. Cost: Because we recognize the importance of individuals taking responsibility for their own growth there is a fee for our services. The services provided by the St. Paul’s Counseling Ministry are an extension of St. Paul’s Outreach Ministries. The Counseling Ministry is self-supporting and all fees collected go to St. Paul’s Church and its other ministries. Fees are based on a person or family’s income using a sliding scale. Sessions are generally fifty minutes in length. (See Chart Below)

Fees should be paid to the counselor BEFORE or FOLLOWING the session. Checks should be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.

4. Referrals: Referrals for counseling are received by this ministry from other counseling professionals, physicians, social workers, priests, pastors, agencies and services. Referrals of individuals are made from this ministry when judged appropriate by the counselor and counselee. Written reports or communications from this ministry to other professionals, agencies or services concerning individuals are done only with the written consent of the person(s) concerned.

5. Confidentially: Strict confidentially is observed in accordance with a professional code of ethics prescribed by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) and according to the statutes of the State of Tennessee.

6. Termination: The termination of counseling is an appropriate time for the individual(s) to discuss and assess his/her gains with the counselor. The individual(s) investment in counseling is fortified by terminating in a counseling session rather than by a phone call or cancelled appointment.
