November Visits to the Oncology Unit
The Outreach Committee has undertaken a project each November in support of the oncology unit of our neighbor, Wellmont-Holston Valley Hospital. These patients are often long term and require repeated visits and as a result, their families often spend long periods of time with their loved ones. The purpose of this project is to provide some comfort to the patients and their families. St. Paul's parishioners provide afternoon refreshments, read at night, lead Sunday afternoon worship and provide a Thanksgiving dinner, complete with turnkey, ham and all the trimmings. Our Sunday School youth serenade the unit on a Sunday morning to the delight of all. This is a worthy project and all who have volunteered have treasured the special times they have shared with the staff, patients and families of the oncology unit.
